Lyfe Institute, would you move across the world to learn French’s cuisine, hospitality and art de la table?
If you are fascinated by the culinary arts or if you have worked in the hospitality sector (and can’t seem to escape it…) maybe you have already heard of the Lyfe Institute, formerly known as the Institute Paul Bocuse. If you are interested in pursuing a career in the luxury hospitality, then this school might be what you need to boost your career!

In the South-East of France, close to city of Lyon (2 hours away from both Paris and Marseille by train) and nestled in the Viver Park in the city of Écully, the Lyfe Institute is one of the most prestigious schools of Hospitality and Culinary Arts in the world. Member of the Conférence des grandes écoles since 2023 (French association grouping the best higher education institutions in France who have the power to accredit training programs), the school campus counts more than 1200 students, with a quarter of them coming from outside of France. More than 75 different nationalities making the Lyfe Institute a place where traditions and innovations are key words. Programs fully taught in English, 30% of their teachers being internationals too and cerise sur le gâteau, a whole team under the name of International Student Affairs who’s only task is to make your life as a foreign student in France… easier!
From helping you with your visa, health insurance, open a bank account or even helping you get government subsidies for housing assistance, their goal is to remove any inconvenient for you to focus solely on your studies. And don’t you dare imagine how lonely you’ll be among all those French people, because the International Student Affairs has a pile of activities for you to find new friends: seminar before the start of the school year where you get to know Lyon, the campus and the staff, cultural activities, team building, participation to the gastronomic festivals all year round, language classes to learn French and so much more. In 2020, the school even got the label “Bienvenue en France” by Campus France (official French national agency who’s in charge of everything surrounding students) attesting of the quality of the reception of the foreign students.

At the Lyfe Institute, you get to learn about Hospitality International Management, Culinary Arts, Pastry and Oenology. After making your choice between several degree levels (Bachelor’s Degrees, Master of Science or Professional and Executive Education) you’ll have the chance to put into practice your knowledge in one of the school’s hotel, restaurant, bar or projects, from your first year onward. The students are also encouraged to academic exchanges (the Lyfe Institute has partnerships with prestigious school across the world, and among those, Woosong University in Daejeon, South Korea, where you get to chance to get dual degrees from both schools!) and internships are mandatory, whether in France or internationally, acquiring incredible experience in the Hospitality world.
Though a little pricey with their yearly tuition fees ranging from 14.000 to 28.000 EUR depending on the program, studying and getting your diploma from the Lyfe Institute gets you a priceless network and to managerial positions right after your degree. The name Paul Bocuse, founder of the school and internationally renowned Chef, is still highly respected and linked to the school reputation, even after his death in 2018 and the rebrand of the Institute in 2023. So, are your suitcases ready ?
before you book your flight, head to the school website to apply first (fees of 250EUR, non-reimbursable), and once the school has approved of your application, you’re good to go! Admissions are known to be competitive but also based on professional aptitude, personality and motivation rather than only outstanding grades. You will also need a recognized high school diploma or equivalent, proof of English proficiency and basic documents like a CV and an application letter. And if all that seems a little too much and too soon, maybe you’ll be interested in one of the Short Programs designed for international students (kindly note that those programs are for those who can attest of at least 2 years of undergraduate studies in Culinary Arts/Hospitality and a B1 level in English)! During 3 to 10 weeks, you’ll be in total immersion in the French world of either Culinary Arts or Hospitality Management, with activities such as tastings, field trips in luxury establishments or classes on French’s technics! The cost of those programs varies from 4.400 to 10.500EUR (discounts for students members of the Alliance network) including half board and accommodation.
Bonne chance!
